Laser printing is an electrostatic digital printing process that rapidly produces high quality text and graphics by passing a laser beam over a charged drum to define a differentially charged image. The drum then selectively collects charged toner and transfers the image to paper, which is then heated to permanently fix the image.
Features of Laser Printer:
- They have high efficiency and prints at a very high speed
- Laser printer makes use of electro-photography that helps in generating clear images.
- Laser printers are noise free and works quietly.
- Self-printing features is given by these printers which may be done without supervision resulting increasing productivity at the workplace.

Thermal printer: A printer which produces a printed image by selectively heating coated thermo-chromic paper (thermal paper) when the paper passes over the thermal print head. The coating turns black in the areas where it is heated, producing an image. They are widely used in filling stations, Point of sale systems etc due to their simple functioning.
Advantages of Thermal printer:
- As the number of moving components is limited, they are very reliable and have long life.
- They are usually smaller and lighter in weight so are widely when compact size, portable and on-demand printing is needed.
- Do not create much sound while working, which makes it easier to work on in commercial atmosphere.
- Print high quality images with cheap printing cost per paper.
- Requires very less maintenance cost.
- As thermal printer does not use any ink or ribbon, they can be easily handled.
